Barbie Beats Inflation

Barbie vs Inflation – A Success Story

Barbie was created in 1959, by Ruth Handler. She noticed a gap in the market - adult dolls (there were none at the time).

Named after her daughter, Barbara, Barbie has been one of the most successful toys ever.

She has also done something few others have done - beaten inflation.

The original Barbie sold for $3.

Using inflation to 2024, Barbie should be over $32 today - she costs just under $11.

Some key factors in keeping Barbie's costs low:

🏆 Brand. Strong brand = high consumer demand = lower marketing costs.

🏭 Volume. High volume = lower manufacturing costs & bargaining power.

🚢 Streamlined supply chain. Low waste and inefficiencies.
